Spare Ribs

From Mom

4 - 8 pounds ribs (usually country ribs are meatiest!)

2 TBSP butter
1 medium onion
1 TBSP dark vinegar
3 TBSP brown sugar
3 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
4 TBSP lemon juice
1-1/2 cups ketchup
1 cup water
1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
1/2 tsp. salt

Brown onions in butter. Add other ingredients and bring to a boil. Be sure to brown ribs under broiler or in frying pan. Pour sauce over ribs in deep pan or roaster oven. Cook on medium high for 2 hours or in crock pot overnight.
